Donut King

Being fairly new to the area, I’ve decided to find out more about Orlando. What better way to check out the best of Orlando than to follow the recommendations from the Orlando Weekly’s Best Of list recently published? One of the first things on the giant list that caught my eye was, of course, donuts. I love donuts. The number one most recommended donut place is Donut King. Let me tell you, it is properly named.

Located at 3716 Howell Branch Rd in Winter Park, the first thing you notice is the vast amount of variety. There must have been at least 40 different kinds of donuts. It was mind boggling. Making a choice of a dozen seemed fruitless. They had your traditional donuts like glazed, powdered, and jelly filled. What caught my eye were the unique flavors like Maple Bacon, Half and Half (half regular glazed and half chocolate glazed), Birthday Cake, and Orange Juice Cake. They also had a cookie and candy category. Representing the candy, the appropriately named Candy Ring which was a chocolate frosted donut with a ton of candy sprinkles on it. Then of course were donuts made with the actual candy like Heath Bar, Kit-Kat, Butterfinger, Nerds, Reese’s, and M&M’s. The cookie category had delicious looking flavors like Vanilla Frosted Oreo, regular Oreo, and Nutterbutter.

My favorite though was the Fruity Pebbles donut. One of my favorite cereals when I was younger made into a donut. Doesn’t get any better than that.

Let me say this for the record. I’m pretty sure I’ll have a new favorite flavor on my next visit as I try my next dozen of flavors. If you love donuts and you want a great variety you definitely have to check out Donut King. The most deserved best donut award of Orlando.
